Barbecue is the one of the most notable activity to do in Salalah in open air. The place has a lovely weather and outdoor activities are possible throughout the year. The Khareef season is ideal for barbecue making. At that time the mountains are green and looks really beautiful. Also the Barbecue can be made on the beaches and parks.

We have tried all these options for making yummy barbecue in Salalah, Oman.

We made mouthwatering Chicken boti (pieces) at beautiful Ad-Dahariz Park, besides white sand Ad-Dahariz Beach and at Ittin.

We made Barbecue in stunning Wadi Darbat in Khareef 2015. This is one of the best places to make barbecue in Salalah. The place has amazing views. This place is packed with tourists during Khareef season.

What is Required to Make Barbecue in Salalah?

There are plenty of essential items that you need for making a barbecue. First and the foremost is the meat. The meat (halal) can be bought from Carrefour in Salalah Gardens Mall or Lulu Hypermarket or any other departmental store. Both of these are located in Al-Rubat Street. There are plenty of options to choose like Chicken, Beef, Mutton and fish. You can also find the ready to made barbecue with marinade to buy in Carrefour and Lulu. This could suit some people’s taste and couldn’t. However, we prefer to marinade meat ourselves and for that don’t forget to buy spices, Garlic and Ginger powders, salt, cooking oil and yogurt. Also buy the sauces you like such as Chili sauce, Ketchup, BBQ sauce, HP etc.

Next most significant thing is the barbecue Grill. We would advice a grill which doesn’t cause posture issues. A standing posture is perfect and will not cause back-pain. Also one important factor to consider while buying the grill is it’s easy transfer to the barbecue venue. carrying a heavy grill is not advisable. We prefer grill with wheels and folding options, so that it can be transferred easily without carrying it on hands all the time.

Personal safety is important. Therefore, an apron and a glove is vital in accessories list. There are many aprons available in the market, which can hold the accessories. The barbecue tool set must contain stainless steel tongs, Spatula, fork, Basting Brush and short handle grill brush with grill scrubber pad.

For boneless meat / chicken grilling, skewers are required. There are plenty to choose from. Its up to you if you want a wooden skewers (one time use) or stainless steel skewers (for multiple use).

A right tray / grill is also a must to have item for barbecue in Salalah. Rotatable and adjustable one is the best.

Barbecue Briquettes / Charcoals is for burning.

Charcoal lighter fluid is required to lighten up the charcoals. In addition to this fluid, you may need wooden pieces. A matchbox is a must for producing fire.

Disposable (paper) plates and glasses are required. You don’t want additional weight for the plastic or ceramic plates in out-door barbecue.

In addition to disposable glasses and plates, plastic disposable forks, knives and spoons may be required. This is optional, you can use hands anyways.

Additional Tips

  • Use aluminium foil to keep the meat after marinade.
  • Keep extra precaution, while making barbecue with children.
  • Don’t through the rubbish around. Put it in the trash bin.
  • Use hot-pot to keep the barbecue hot and fresh if you want to eat all together.
  • Take a kettle with you to make tea or coffee after barbecue with the hot charcoal.
  • Bring water and juices along.
  • Say “Bismillah ArRehman ArRaheem” before eating barbecue and say “Alhumdulilah” after finishing.
